Hit Save! is a non profit organization dedicated to the preservation of video games. One of their initiatives is helping open source projects that share similar goals by providing them with funds.

A few weeks ago, I was approached by Rich McGrath and Jonas Rosland of HitSave on our Discord server, generously offering to provide the Lutris project with funds that would cov...

The 2023 edition of the Ubuntu Summit is over and once again, it was an amazing event! Many thanks to everyone at Canonical who have worked hard to organize a community focused conference of the highest quality, with a special shout out to Mauro Gaspari who made sure gaming on Linux was well represented!
It was a pleasure meeting with Dennis Sädtler from Legendary and OBS and Pawel Lidwin from Heroic Games Launcher. It was also great seeing Arek Hiler and Thomas “Glorious Eggroll” Crider again, as well...

New Lutris Release!
Based on my optimistic predictions from the Github milestones, it looks like this release is 5 months late... But there it is! Lutris 0.5.14! Based on the amount of testing that went into the development of this release, I didn’t feel it was necessary to ship any betas or release candidate and go straight for the stable release. During the past few months, Lutris has been receiving a consistent flow of contributions, which has helped a lot with the quality of this release.
There were 2 major goals fo...

On July 10, 2023, a study conducted by the Video Game History Foundation and the Software Preservation Network stated that “most classic video games are completely unavailable”, going as far as stating that 87% of them are currently unavailable.
This result comes from taking a sample of 1500 games from 3 legacy systems and counting the number of games available for purchase today. The goal of this study is to raise awareness about the availability of classic...

We're very pleased to announce the release of Lutris 0.5.9! This release brings some new features to take Linux as a gaming platform to the next level...
- AMD FSR can be enabled for all Wine games using DXVK or VKD3D. This allows the game to internally render at a lower resolution while being upscaled to your monitor's native resolution. To use FSR, make sure you are using the FShack variant of lutris-wine, enable the option in the ...

Some of you may have noticed the message below while trying to interact with the Github issue tracker:

This is the result of a change made in the repository settings for the Lutris client and website. The setting limits interactions (bug reports, pull requests) to previous contributors or members of internal teams. This is an unexpected move for an Open Source project but it was deemed to be the best solution to make the project move forward.<...

We are happy to announce the release of Lutris 0.5.8! This version is a really big milestone for the project because it shifted several aspects to make it more aligned with how the project should be. The biggest change in this release is the addition of a “Sources” section in the sidebar where resides all 3rd party services we support. At this moment, this includes Steam, Humble Bundle, GOG and Lutris itself, which is now treated as a service, with a few special features, like the ability to search the whole installer database from lutri...

I'm happy to announce the release of Lutris 0.5.7! With this version, we tried to clean up our mess. Not only many bugs have been fixed, more checks have been put in place to ensure a cleaner code base (thanks @AlexanderRavenheart!); it was also time for our MESS runner to go... It's been a long time since the MESS emulator has been merged into the MAME project so there's not really any point maintaining a MESS runner in Lutris. All your MESS games will be migrated to MAME. Any feature the MESS runner had has been ported to the MAME runner. ...

For the project’s 10th birthday, I have a very special announcement to make! Lutris has been awarded $25,000 as part of the Epic MegaGrants initiative. With the Epic MegaGrants, Epic Games are attributing a total of $100 million to projects and developers helping the gaming and 3D graphics ecosystem. I’m very glad that Epic chose to show their support for a gaming platform that is exclusively centered around Linux systems. Epic ...

The more I use my "Lutris console" (a Ryzen+Radeon powered computer running nothing but a minimal installation of Ubuntu 19.04, Steam and Lutris), the more I realize that we have finally made it! I can start Steam and play native games such as Rocket League, Borderlands 2 or Rise of the Tomb Raider... or use Proton and play GTA V, Doom, Dishonored 2 or Bioshock Remastered… I can also run Lutris and have my GOG library available in a few clicks, with games like Darksiders Warmastered or Shadow Warrior 2 running smoothly and in all their DRM...

I am very glad to announce the release of Lutris 0.5.0. This version is a great step for the project, bringing a refreshed UI and the very awaited GOG integration to the client. As the state of gaming on Linux greatly improved, it was only normal to have a gaming client that matched this level of quality. The current combination of NVidia 415 / Mesa 19, Wine TkG 4.0 and DXVK 0.96 produces such fantastic results that they 2019-02-01 21:28:02 +0000 UTC

The past few week have been totally crazy. The evolution of projects such as Mesa, Vulkan or Wine has been phenomenal, and this reflects on the Lutris project, where we have to keep up with those evolutions and ship a product that leverages them as much as possible.
With a growing pile of issues accumulating on github and users or contributors getting confused but long standing issues, I figured it was time to do something about it to keep the project healthy.
Therefore, I have decided to focus the next following months catching u...

The initial plan to ship 0.5.0 after 0.4.18 changed when some pretty serious issues where found with the runtime. Lutris 0.5.0 still needs a lot of work and keeping the 0.4.x branch alive is necessary at that point. This release merges some features that were only available on the 'next' branch in the Git repo, mostly fixes related to the runtime loading.
Also, a widely requested feature was to have an up to date list of DXVK versions in the options, this...
