TC Ep 293 Script

Keelee running through tunnels. She recognizes them from when she and tiraa first went through them with Cyras. Comes out at the one by the Directorā€™s house.

KL: No - this is - 

she looks back at the dark tunnel, then takes off through the trees, keeping to shadows, looking up.

KL:(the director told me there were people with guns in the treesā€¦do they not see me? I donā€™t see them. Maybe Iā€™m good at sneaking.)

She gets to the edge of the treeline by the house, thereā€™s a crate of food delivery by the servants stairs. her stomach growls. she goes and starts rummaging when she hears voices. the cates arent big enough to hide behind, she spots reamerā€™s car parked and climbs in the back. 

reamer and his gmother are arguing on the porch.

gm: you will go to that Dove and you will tell him, in no uncertain terms, that he will not -

reamer: you think i would allow them more power in this ridiculous power play they have us in?

gm: that mother of yours would have us show weakness and wait before -

r: mother does not currently have a firm grasp on the machinations of this Island.

gm: on that we agree. How dare that Dove send his minion here to demand -

r: donā€™t worry, grandmother. this press conference will give the Altimeter his answer and put a stop to these delusions of grandeur he seems to be having.

gm: they are not a new thing. do not fall for any trick he may pull, and do not let your guard down. If this goes wrong, it will all be on your hands, this time. And we will not survive it.

[reamer flies down to his car and gets in the drivers seat. keelee covers her mouth and hides behind his chair between his wings in the footwell. reamer starts the car. sits for a bit, then slams his hands on the wheel, swearing. keelee thinks ā€œa swear!ā€. He puts the car in gear and starts driving.]

[drive into the city, past the barriers at the checkpoints. he pulls up outside a hotel and as he gives the keys to the valet she sneaks out the back and into the city streets, reamer briefly spotting her. she keeps to the shadows but thereā€™s lights everywhere as its the central city. when people spot her they sneer and shout crow so she runs. it gets darker and darker as she descends into Murder territories. Sheā€™s jostled by a group of Jays, then a Mapgie grabs her arm.

magpie1: and what do we ā€˜av ā€˜ere? 

mp2: thatā€™s gotta be the puniest Crow Iā€™ve ever seen. Yanked primaries too eh, whoā€™s out here fledging fledglings now??

mp1: whoā€™dā€™ya follow, kid? What Murder?

KL: uhhh (thinks back to the res hallway fight earlier) BlackAsh.

[the magpies stop in their tracks and look at eachother]

mp1: BlackAshā€¦you say

mp2: reckon Reik will want to see this with his own eyes.

mp1: I reckon yer right. This way, pipsqueak. Time to meet a real Boss.

[they drag her through the crowds and to a side room in a warehouse where reik is warming up with his posse. 

mp1: weā€™ve got sommat interestinā€™ for ya, Reik.

reik: [raises eyebrow and eyes up keelee] well i sure hope it is, for your sakes.

mp2: this kid says sheā€™s BlackAsh.

r: [looks, then tilts his head back to laugh.] Listen, kid. thatā€™s not a name you wanna be throwing around nowadays, gottit? Especially not lyinā€™ about it, neither. All those BlackAsh are long gone. They know if theyā€™re spotted in these parts theyā€™re done for, so I suggest you run back to your nest and tell yer ma -

[magpie rushes in]

mp3: Reik. Thereā€™s - youā€™ve gotta - come quick. Now. 

reik: Iā€™m on in 10, my fans can wait a bit longer now -

mp3: itā€™s not that, itā€™s -

reik: spit it out already.

mp3: BlackAsh. Theyā€™re here.

[silence. everyone turns to KL to realise sheā€™s already escaped in the distraction. you can hear Reik yelling as we see KL running back through the crowds.]

[keelee bumps into twik]

kl: e-excuse me, which way is the warehouse district?

Twik: huh? oh, that way [points. squints at her] arenā€™t you -

[she runs off and gets lost in the crowd.]

[she keeps running and big warehouse buildings start to go by. sheā€™s sneaking. She catches the white robe of a Dove and follows. Thereā€™s a bunch of them in the warehouse loading trucks.]

dove1: think thisā€™ll be enough?

d2: more than enough. the Altimeter wants these trucks full before we ship to the coast, put your back into it.

[kl runs off, down another side street.]

KL: (where are you Ky? Come on already. This is scary -)

[A shadow looms behind her and grabs her. Reamer has his hand over her mouth. she fights.]

reamer: stop already, youā€™re gonna get yourself killed out here like this. Iā€™ll let you go, but if you scream or try to run Iā€™ll let the Doves have you, got it?

[KL nods reluctantly. Reamer frees her.]

r: why are you here? how are you here, even? I saw you sneak out my car so I know you havenā€™t been here the entire time since the wedding, but I did assume youā€™d at least found your brother and he had the wherewithal to put you somewhere safe by now.

KL: im looking for him. grandfather, he - [she looks around, searching. reamer frowns]

r: itā€™s not safe -

KL: no! I have to help him! Heā€™s always trying - I have to -

R:  If your brotherā€™s in trouble, you being there isnā€™t going to help. come. 

[KL looks around, tears in her eyes. voices and shadows come down a street, they enter the warehouse with the doves, laughing. screaming starts. reamer picks up kl and runs away]

[reamer sits on a chair in the hotel suite on his tablet. keelee comes out the bathroom, the dye washed out.]

r: are you going to tell me how it is you found out your brother was there in the first place?

kl: no.

R: or what your grandfather wanted with him?

KL: i donā€™t know. But Grandfather is always mean, and he had helmets and guns with him. 

r: he went in with a Guard detail? [scrolling on tablet] Unauthorized, sounds like. If the Wardenā€™s going out on his own side missions heā€™ll have me to answer to. A lot of the surveillance has been wiped out around that district and Murder territory, but there are a few covert ones left functionalā€¦[is running a face scan of kyā€™s gov profile pic to try find him on island cameras. It alerts to a brief flash of it hours ago, on Murder territory outskirts. sees his father with him.] So he is here, too. and that osprey i had arrested must be my uncle. why does nothing about this family surprise me anymore.

r: [to keelee] well, if you refuse to help then just go to sleep. Iā€™ve had a busy night and still have work to finish. the door is locked, so donā€™t try to run again. 

kl: [in master bed in other room. can see reamer working on the couch.] those bad Magpiesā€¦theyā€™re gonna do something bad, arenā€™t they?

r: bad magpies?

kl: yeah. they were shouting a bunch. 

r: ā€¦was one of them named Reik?

KL: (sleepy) yeah. He was the meanest and shoutiest. I didnā€™t like him one bit. (falls asleep)

[reamer switches to Murder cameras. Gets glimpses of bodies from random angles. a large crowd. suddenly the crowd parts for a second and reveals Scra. Reamer is transfixed. on the tv next to him shows his press conference with the altimeter on the sidelines saying heā€™s letting the dove conduct the ceremony]]

r: and soā€¦another contender throws his crown into the ring.
