The thing was not human.
Prowling on four massive limbs, the creature towered with a height thrice that of any mortal man. The spiked tail and corpse-grey mane marked it unmistakably as a beast — if perhaps one of unnatural size and aberrant design.
A leonine monster out of a madman’s nightmare, wrapped in sinewy skin and silvery scales. No one — not even a child — could mistake it for anything remotely human.
