"Then what should I do?" Tenten asked Ren with an unhappy frown.

Ren chuckled in amusement at that. "That's the question, isn't it?" He looked at Tenten and saw that she did not like that answer at all and was trying and failing not to scowl. "If it were that easy, there would have been thousands of S-rank ninjas in Konoha."

Ren wholeheartedly believed that everybody had the potential to become S-rank. The problem was, not many people knew how to train effectively.

"I was waiting here for an hour! Don't even think about cutting in line, bastard!"

"Can you speed it up, please? I just want to buy my exploding tags. I am already late for my team meeting!"

"Gai! Tenten! Over here!" Ren yelled through the heavy noise of the crowd in his shop and beckoned them to head toward a side entrance to the back room as he noticed them staring at the chaos in front of them in disbelief.

Ch120. AP Seal and Jutsu Scrolls

Ren rubbed his forehead with a wince as Tenten left the store.

After he asked her about her affinity, her expression fell, and she shared with him that it was Earth, something quite useless for a weapon user.

Sure, she could harden her weapons. But that wouldn't really help all that much. She deemed it was not worth sinking the years of effort into mastering her affinity when the payoff was something barely usable in a fight.

It was a major sore point for her.

Ch119. Meddling

"Hello. Can I help you?" Ren slid behind the counter and asked as Tenten approached him.

There wasn't much to look at in the shop. He was selling seals, and thus, there were no items showcased in the room. There were only a several comfy sofas with small tables between them where brochures with the seals for sale lay.

Ch118. The Yotsuba Seals

'Yotsuba Ren... it has a nice ring to it.' Ren thought as he arrived in front of a building on the main road with a signboard that stated, 'The Yotsuba Seals' above the entrance.

It had been a week since he established a clan, and the very first thing he did since then was to buy and renovate this building with the intent of opening a shop.

Clans in Konoha had many privileges, and tax evasion was one of them.

"Specifics, huh?" Shikaku hummed before snorting, "The Hokage Advisors don't like that you are approaching the clans with your new invention instead of the village."

Ren nodded. That made sense. The advisors. That meant Homura and Koharu, as Danzo was kicked from that position after the Uchiha massacre, so he wasn't one of them anymore.

And honestly, that was fair. A loyal ninja should, at least according to the guidebook, give the benefits of his work to his village. Of course, not many did that because, duh.

The serious atmosphere between Shikaku and Ren intensified until Shikaku completely cancelled it with a small, lazy chuckle followed by a smile.

"But before we get to the unpleasant stuff, I've heard you approached the Yamanaka and the Akimichi clans." He said and gave Ren a meaningful look.

Ren didn't even need a second to decipher its meaning. Everybody in Konoha knew that the Ino-Shika-Cho clans were very close allies. And he had approached two of the three.

Ren sat at a table in a clearing belonging to the Nara forest. He deliberately chose a seat on the side, not joining the main 'ball' of Ino-Shika-Cho people in the middle of the clearing who were drinking, talking, and having fun.

Ren's 'guide' was not rude. But it was obvious he'd rather be somewhere else.

"Hello." Ren said as he sat down behind a table facing Asuma and Kurenai in a nondescript, mostly empty restaurant. "Didn't expect to be invited to a meeting with you two. Well? What do you need from me?"

It was the day when the new genins were going to be told their team placements. Ren could guess what this was about, considering the teams would be the same as in canon, as far as he could tell.

"Enter and be amazed!" Ren said as he opened the door to his cottage in the hidden training ground and let the girls in.

"Aren't I amazing?" Ino turned toward Ren, giving him a victory sign with her fingers and expecting praise.

While the original Ren watched Ino 'helping' Sasuke awaken his Sharingan, the clone Ren was hidden as he observed Mizuki's meeting with Naruto.

Quickly skimming through the documents, Ren was already experiencing the start of a headache. He couldn't just frame Danzo. Even if he fabricated evidence and put it among the documents for people to find, nothing would have come out of it.

Danzo had positioned himself in a very unique position. He was too useful for many influential people to get rid of, while also being invisible enough for the masses not to really care about him.

In a tall tower among numerous mountain peaks, stood a tall, muscular, brown-skinned man with blond hair, impassively watching as a thunderstorm swept through his village, covering it in a blanket of darkness only interrupted by an occasional lightning strike hitting the rocky ground.

"Get off!" Ren shrugged Naruto off his shoulders with an exasperated irritation coloring his tone. "No way I am teaching you anything, Naruto!"

"What do you think is the difference between an S-rank ninja and a jonin?" Ren asked the girls, and Hinata gained a pondering look while Ino opened her mouth to reply without thinking, but then her brain started to process the situation, and she stopped herself with a frown.

The girls looked at each other with a bit of helpless confusion on their faces, drawing blanks at how to answer the question. They knew Ren didn't want an obvious answer like, 'One is more dangerous than the other.'

A few days passed, and Ren was finally standing in front of the Hokage after coming back to the village, recounting his encounter with the Kumo ninjas, when Danzo Shimura walked into the Hokage's office as if he owned the place.

"I heard Kumo attacked one of our ninjas, Hiruzen." He said steadily, with a flat tone, and Ren found himself involuntarily deadpanning at the man.
