Here‘s a timelapse video of the pencilling process for page 2 of Still Life. I drew the story, as most of my work these days, in Procreate on an iPad Pro. I have worked digitally for many years as I really like the flexibility of it - I often draw quite improvisationally, without doing a lot of pre-planning with thumbnails, and so it is good for me to be able to adjust and redraw easily. This is a short comic I wrote and drew a couple of years ago, when I was going through a difficult period of creative block. As an attempt to break it I started doing daily writing in the mornings. First thing after waking up (and making coffee) I would sit at my desk and write whatever came to mind in a notebook, not censoring, revising or second-guessing, just starting to write and not lifting my hand from the paper until I had filled three pages. I’ve been planning to launch this page for a long time, and I finally felt like this was the right time. I am primarily going to be sharing new comics stories unseen anywhere else, both short form and long form. Up first is ”Still Life,” a short story about creative block. For the “Behind The Scenes“ tier I will share a couple of timelapse videos of me pencilling pages. After that, in the coming weeks I will start posting pages from my new long form project, “Otto & Olya.” I’m excited to share them with you!
