December Preset: Japanese Blues

Hellooo :)

It's time to finish off the year with the last preset of 2023 - this is "Japanese Blues".

There's a popular look in especially Japanese photography that I've encountered that broadly could be described as high-key, hazy and blue. Inspired by that look and thinking that you might enjoy it too, I decided to create my version of that look with a little bit of my own spin on it.

It is certainly a stylised look with an overall shift to a teal hue, but without destructing other colours, especially the skin tones.

for this month I decided to share with you my edit from the last video of me falling/fooling around in front of the camera. Many enjoyed the look so I thought this might be worth sharing.

They all follow a pretty similar editing technique so I worked out decent mid-ground and made that the preset, so that it becomes applicable for more photographs.

Personally I think this one works best on exactly these conditions - so that means sunny days with harsh light. The preset will balance out the highlights and shadow...

I called it "an old roll of Fuji I found". The preset will give your photos a faded green look with rough grain that reminds of what mildly expired film can look like. I've found that it works quite well as an all-rounder, so in the sun, in the shade or at night, it's always applicable. However do not expect accurate skin tones. I was so in awe with the unique look of that scene and reeeally need to watch that film some time soon. Inspired by recent shoots in Tokyo I've designed this muted urban look that I think suits urban photographs pretty well if you're looking for a slightly moody but not overly stylised look.

Hello hello, just coming in with a quick update: I dropped off this month's postcards at the post office yesterday so they're on their way and should arrive to all of you in Europe very soon and overseas might take a little longer but maybe by the end of next week they'll arrive :)

Also here's a little sneak peak of tomorrow's video - I always make multiple variations of thumbnails and then stare at them for a while to decide which is best :D
