This month's Dispatch theme is, appropriately, horror. Or: What makes a scary game scary? We pick apart out favorite horror games and compare them to this month's crop of horror-themed titles. We also answer your questions and prompts, and read your responses to October's games.
Next month, we're talking about The Last Express, The Simpsons: Hit and Run, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
In December, we're hitting up Tyranny and Jade Empire.

The tradition continues with another horror short story for Halloween. This year it's another story from The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers. "The Mask" is the story of a love triangle between three artists in Paris, which is disrupted by a miraculous elixer and a stray copy of the accursed play.
Thank you so much for your support, and have a safe and happy Halloween!

Everything To Guppy is a bite-sized, four-times weekly comedy/gaming podcast in which Gary Butterfield (Watch Out For Fireballs) and William Hughes (The A.V. Club) attempt to analyze every single item, boss, character, and concept in the rogue-lite video game The Binding Of Isaac. They manage to pull it off only slightly less than 50 percent of the time.

This is a different episode of this show. Instead of talking about one widely released film, we're instead talking about short films displayed at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. We cover six shorts that can be found on the 2016 collection and 2019-10-30 19:23:07 +0000 UTC

Even joins me to talk about the short story "Everything's Eventual", which introduces the unwitting psychic assassin Dinky Earnshaw. Some bad dialogue aside, this Dark Tower side story is tightly written, and does a great job at inducing both paranoia and impostor syndrome.

Gary and Kole are contractually obligated to talk about this very good 2d Soulslike that is basically overflowing some good ideas and fun boss fights (and also has some not as good boss fights, to be fair). This is the first episode of our coverage, talking about generalities and up to the hub area.

Hey folks, not your usual DOFC episode this time around. Gary and I had a conversation about changing the format of the show after we finish covering Evolution, and then decided: screw it! Let's change the format now! So we are. We're dropping Evolution, and switching to COMICS. That's right! We're going to do an issue by issue breakdown of some of our (and your!) favorite arcs in the X-Men series, starting with Grant Morrison's New X-Men. This 20m episode will walk you through our thought process and lay out all these plans. Enjoy!

We're looking for two kinds of things:

Alan Wake is a writer, and he reminds you of that a lot. This is Remedy's third person shooter followup to the first two Max Payne games. It dabbles in horror without being terribly scary, and gets extremely metatextual at a time when that wasn't a huge thing in games. It worked at the time, and would probably work on a first playthrough, but we struggle to see through the game's unfortunate design flaws.
Thanks to Vulpes for producing this episode!
