Atlas Elyden #31 - Venthir

Nate Mangion post Atlas Elyden #31 - Venthir from patreon

There's a bit of a longer description to go with this one - it's the full entry from Vol III of the Encyclopaedia Elyden. Also, I was hoping to get this up last week but got busy and was only able to finish it this morning. this won't affect the update for this Wednesday.

You can find an updated key to the map here.

the White Martyr

The White Martyr

The door was immense. In any other place its sheer expanse would be a thing to test a man’s sanity. The immensity of it, the impossibility of a portal so big, might have been enough to break even the most vehement of minds.

But the man just stood there atop those four-and-ninety stairs, body withered by a journey that no man should have completed, let alone bested.

He had set out at the head of a great army from the distant east, commanding cadres and legions of warriors and eli...

Encyclopaedia Entries - Vol 1

So here's the first of my weekly updates. As it's the first week of the month I'm going to be sharing some of the more recent additions to the Encyclopaedia Elyden.  Please let me know what you think and let me know if there's any mistakes or typos as these entries are heading straight to the Encyclopaedia at the end of the month :)

Encyclopaedia Elyden update (Temuja)

Here are some of the Encyclopaedia entries that I came up with for Temuja (the map I posted last week). These aren’t comprehensive, as many other regions have been fleshed out for some time. These are the things added to this new detailed map as I was making it. Some things are included in the map, and others are generic worldbuilding elements that needed to be included to make other map features make sense (a monastery needs an order of monks, and the monks need a name and characteristic features, for instance).

Atlas Elyden #30 - Temuja (Textless version 2)

Nate Mangion post Atlas Elyden #30 - Temuja (Textless version 2) from patreon

you get a bonus textless map this month - it's basically the same map, but with different elevations. After finishing the map I realised that, considering Temuja is meant to be a high-elevation region, it wasn't that high, so I went back and made the basin higher. Still not too high, but better than before.

I kept the old version of the map so thought I might as well post it here as a bonus for all patrons, to give you a taste of some of the perks that Acolytes get every month :)

Thanks for your support

Nate Mangion post What Do You Like Most About This Page? from patreon

I want to take the time to thank all my patrons - both those whose been with me for a while now, as well as the new ones. It's great knowing that there are people who like my maps and worldbuilding enough to give me some of their hard-earned money every month, no matter how small the amount - it's very much appreciated!

Now that the Atlas Elyden Inner Sea maps are finished I'll start working on random regions, continuing in the same Atlas Style. I'll be posting a new one of the coming days actually.

Atlas Elyden #29 - the Independancy of Khamid

Nate Mangion post Atlas Elyden #29 - the Independancy of Khamid from patreon

So here's the latest map in the Atlas Elyden series. Khamid is one of the first regions I came up with before I  actually started working on the world of Elyden - it's a remnant of an old D&D campaign system I had come up with for 3rd edition (or possibly 3.5) that I imported into Elyden since I hate wasting a good region! I redid the map and recycled the place names and the Cataclysm  (more on this below TL,DR: a HUGE magi...

Full Test of plot generator is live!

I think I'm done with this so far, though I'd like some feedback from you guys :)

There's currently 40 individual 'scenarios' each with loads of different random options and permutations available, so it should be VERY rare to get the same exact outcome twice in a row.

I’m looking for small errors like problems with capitalisations and plurals (like plurals for words normally ending in -y becoming -ys rather than -ies). Some things like sex possessives and just gender in general are difficult to do...

Elyden Random plot generator

I've only just received my laptop back from repairs (only €330...) so I've unfortuantely not had much time to work on maps, and it's unlikely, with only 6 days left in January, that I'll get any cartographical work done by the end of the month.

I have been productive though, working on a plot generator for Elyden, including races, animals, and locations specific to the world.

It;s been a bit of a learning curve, with lots of struggling with square brackets within square brackets to get the random outcomes to make sense. In many ...

The Path Travelled - Part 12

12 – the Siege of Zaffre

Part 11

The sound of distant thunder echoed across the city. It had been like that for the past week, only Chronicler knew it wasn’t thunder. The ground rumbled beneath his feet and the sounds of distant shouting and screams reached his room upon a dread breeze.

He rubbed his face in his hands.

It was late, or early, he couldn’t tell. But it was still night.

Inner Sea Poster Map W.I.P - High-res

Nate Mangion post Inner Sea Poster Map W.I.P - High-res from patreon

I’m sorry. I tried to get this finished and uploaded by the end of the year. I managed neither. I had a few weeks set aside towards the end of the year to get this finished off and posted though I got sick – first toothache then a cold. I slowed down and wasn’t able to get this finished off, which means there was no post for December. And for that I’m sorry.

I’ve uploaded what I managed to get done – the Inner Sea poster map with icons done and most of the inset text boxes done too. What’s left are the labels and the r...

WIP - Composite Poster Map of the Inner Sea

Nate Mangion post WIP - Composite Poster Map of the Inner Sea from patreon

I'm working away at full-speed on the composite map of the Inner Sea. I've been busy redoing all the markers and some of the labels (due to resizing  and scaling issues I couldn't use the original labels and markers, so a 1,000+ individual labels and markers had to all be redone from scratch...).

I'm hoping to get the map done by the end of the year and posted as my map for December and am working at full pelt to get it done!

Once that's done I'd like to get a good version done as a poster for myself and to any patrons who ar...

A history of Nárthel

A nation in the northern Sammaea, divided from Llachatul by a narrow strip of water that until 3757 RM was known as the Strait of Nárthel. Nárthel, alongside its physical neighbour Lyridia, serves as a division between the Inner sea to the west and the Dark Sea to the east, and the silting of the Strait of Nárthel brought to an end millennia of traffic between the two seas.

The nation was founded in the year -403 RM as a confederacy between the states of Tamesis, Nicath and Enesh, which in -589 RM emerged as separate sta...

Atlas Elyden #27 - the Vassal State of Nárthel

Nate Mangion post Atlas Elyden #27 - the Vassal State of Nárthel from patreon

the latest map in the Atlas Elyden is Nárthel. I added a little inset map detailing a very large cave-system that dominates the south-west of the state, though I'm still not 100% sold on the style - it seems a bit jarring next to the rest of the map.

I've finally finished the 12th map in the series showing the region of Jurras.

a History of Sagittaria

The region now known as Sagittaria was first colonised by Sagittaari people who were fleeing Korachani persecution in 13 RM due to their refusal to bow to the demands of the Archpotentate Malichar who wanted them to forsake their deity, remembered now only as the Asp God, in favour of the new religion that he brought with him from captivity known as the Church of Machine. Led by the Knights-exile, they fled west across the Inner Sea, carrying the monolithic Asp Pillar with them, and settled the land to the north and south of the ...
