My third shoot of the year and second with Xanetia. I returned to Brighton Beach which I'd used at the end of March 2022 on a shoot with Maddy but I had messed up the sunset time and got there just as the sun was hitting the water so it was all a bit rushed.

Shoot Breakdown - Xanetia Sunset Shoot

I generally only shoot over interstate con weekends, either at the event or side shoots at the hotel. Interstate location shoots are just too difficult given the logistics involved, in finding a location in a city I don't know well and the effort of getting around with my disability plus the con takes up most of the time and side shoots are squeezed in around the event usually in the evening. What I really want to do is more outdoor shoots with interesting backgrounds and beautiful ambient light.

Finally getting around the process my shoots with @thatgypsygeek in Perth July 2022 while there for Supanova. We shot a Daphne from Scooby Doo and MJ from Spiderman both of which we stripped down to lingerie versions. One of the few benefits to being disabled is that the hotel rooms you get are much roomier, which makes it much easier to setup lights.

I know its been a bit quiet here the last year. I do basically all of these shoot interstate so all the cancelled events really hit hard.

I was recently in Perth for the first time in 3 years and caught up with some of my fav people and did 5 side shoots including this one with Ellie Christina.

I posted the top image to the Goldnova gallery yesterday (and Instagram) and today every time I saw my feed I had an uneasy feeling, I really like the image but the colours hadn't turned out as planned. I had processed the image twice for the original making the colour temperature really cool, to the point where the skin tones where blue but it gave me the greens I wanted on the left, I then did a version to get the skin tones and the cross faded between the two to get the final image but want I didn't realise is how cool I still had the ski...

Neon City (02) - Behind the Scenes

A couple of quick BTS shots from the Neon City shoot. We were shooting in a relatively small apartment on the Gold Coast where I had setup in the lounge, initially in front of the of the balcony doors. The problem with this soon became apparent. Immoral Kombat 2021 - Shoot Beakdown

I first met Mema in January of 2015 at Follow the White Rabbit, an art exhibition, inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I was there shooting and she mentioned she was looking for someone to do promo photos for her upcoming Fringe show. Supanova Melbourne Setup

A wide-shot of the setup at Melbourne Supanova which shows the new 6x3 meter purple material backdrop. We were using 2.8m paper rolls but after a tour (two shows) they were disposed of (or given to a local photographer). This was obviously a recurring cost for the organisation so we looked at a reusable replacement so we I browsed online for some options and while I liked the look of some other materials like vinyl the weight ruled it out as an option.

Melbourne Supanova 2020 Logistical Review

Melbourne Supanova was a tough weekend were everything seemed to be going wrong. Flight over was delayed taking off, the usual just over 1 hour flight to Melbourne lasted 2 and a half hours meaning we were getting in after the hotel check-in cut off which we quickly had to organise upon landing, the hotel was changed on us last minute after I'd gone to great lengths to get my assistant a room in the same hotel (which was now the wrong hotel), my room was on the first floor up stairs (I walk with a mobility aid!), we were using a new type of ...

Immoral Kombat - Vendetta

My friends at Immoral Kombat have their Adelaide Fringe burlesque show on again this year with many new performers so we needed to make a host of new 'Fight' cards which are shown on screen before each pair up.

We had to shoot them outside the venue over 4 hours, going from bright sunshine to early evening when this shot was taken and we could get the most out of the lights.

This is Vendetta who just happens to be one of the editors working on the new Mortal Kombat film being filmed in Adelaide.

Skin Colour Quick Fix

I've shown this before but it is such a quick and easy fix I use it a lot. I've been processing more shots from PAX and face/body takes a real battering over a con day and by the time I photograph is its not always looking even with smudges and patchiness.

So what I do is 

• Create a new layer above the image
• Change its 'Layer Mode' to 'Color' 
• Get the colour picker tool and select a midtone sample of the skin (midtime green in this case staying away from areas of highlight of shadow)
