How I stopped worrying and learned to love the Bonk: A Maindeck Hammer Primer

With the meta in flux right now, no one is really sure what the “optimal build” of Hammer is. So instead of just guessing, I wanted to discuss how to build a hammer deck and what to do based on your expected meta.

Deck and SB guide, effective 10/7/2022

Hello hello hello everyone, here is the link to the updated Hammer list effective 10/7/22. You'll notice some small changes from last month, which I will cover below. As I have been testing for the SCG DFW 30K, I expect slightly more UW control than normal, and I expect a decent amount of living end as well as 4C Control or Creativity.

Of course, make sure to adjust your mid-match decisions based on the specifics of any list you face and use this as a guideline, rather than a hard and fast rule!

Deck and SB guide, effective 9/7/2022

Howdy everyone, here is the link to the updated Hammer list effective 9/7/22. You'll notice some small changes from last month, which I will cover below. This is 73/75 of the list that I top 4'ed the NRG 5k with, and going into an open meta, it is the list I would recommend.

Of course, make sure to adjust your mid-match decisions based on the specifics of any list you face and use this as a guideline, rather than a hard and fast rule!

Matchup Analysis - Hammer Mirror

Key Cards:

Pre-board: Sigarda’s Aid, Paladin, Kaldra/SFM, Inkmoth, Shadowspear, The Reality Chip

Post-board: Removal Spells, Spell Pierce, Pithing Needle

Key Strategies and Objectives:

  • Kill them ASAP
    • Mulligan to a fast hand (goal is turn 3. If you have the turn 2, then go for it.). Oftentimes mulling to 5 is often correct if you can’t get a strong 7 or 6. Since you often need to kill fast and there ...

Update for this week!

It's been live for about a week, and I'm blown away by the support on the patreon. Thank you all so much! I am still figuring out the logistics on group talks, but in the meantime you can look forward to my breakdown of the much-requested 4c matchup this week!
