Riley Pin-Up

A couple of months back, you might recall I did a favorite character poll.  Riley, Kiera and Max won in a three way tie, so I decided to make full color high-res posters for each of them.  I finished Riley's first, because of course I did.  Kiera's isn't far behind.  Max's is... still a work in progress.

This is a web-friendly-sized public version of the poster just to thank everyone who isn't a Patron for reading and generally being awesome.  Patrons get access to much, much higher resolutions of these posters...

Kiva Warmup

Just a super quick warm-up of Kiva today.

This is what I've started calling a "Tier-1 sketch." Normally I'd reduce its opacity, go over it again with a Tier-2 sketch, then (if I'm still not satisfied), I'll trace over that once more with a Tier-3 sketch before I start inking the final lines. None of these sketches are visible in a completed image, usually. Often they will contain construction lines and other helpful messy marks like that. They are only there to help me refine and refine again how I want my expressions or poses to look...

Weekly Update - 62

Things are finally starting to get back to normal!  We've got our new desks almost set up.  We got a fridge... washer and dryer are being delivered this week... and the builders promised to think about fixing our internet this week... so... hopefully that all happens!  I'm down to about 3.5 gb of phone data before they start throttling me big time, and at the rate I'm going that won't last me the week.

Progress is being made on Page 101, and if I really hammer on it today and tomorrow I should be able to get it posted on...

Character Q&A - Riley's Tail

So, I'm still pretty braindead from moving (and all the subsequent problems we've been having since) and we haven't received ANY sketch suggestions and yesterday I was completely out of ideas, so I just doodled some crap I didn't feel was worth posting.

Today I complained about this to my good friend Foster, and he posed the question, what if Riley told us what happened to her tail?

And that simple question got me thinking.  And then  later in the day I felt inspired and I drew this!  But it ALSO made me realize......

Cheshire Riley

I suppose I'm aware that at least a part of Riley's design is inspired by the Cheshire Cat. That grin of hers is meant to be creepy and unnerving. Visually, it's meant to give you the impression that she is insane or that she's capable of unpredictable behavior. However, I try to be very careful to avoid defining her by an unspecific madness. Riley is a person first: she is a normal young girl, who just experiences a different reality from the rest of us. I don't think of her as "crazy" or "broken" or "damaged" or "sick." Weekly Update - 61

Last night was full of dreams. They were those annoyingly realistic dreams that seemed to be completely plausible and completely real until you wake up and you remember that none of it happened... except even after you think about it you can't quite be 100% sure it didn't.

The move is going well... ish. A lot of our stuff has been unpacked and the house is beginning to resemble something functional, but the builders forgot one of the lighting options we paid for in one room and they left us this growing checklist of items that still ne...

This is a Friday Post, it's Friday, shush. It's also a hasty, unfinished sketch from a couple of days ago before everything exploded.

The best laid plans of fraternal twin foxsnep things often go awry. I'm sorry for all the delays. Regular comics will resume soon. We were supposed to have internet installed yesterday. We don't even have internet right now.

Kiera Swimsuit

I'm not above a little Kiera fanservice. Besides, I could always use the anatomy practice. I used a posing doll for the body this time, but I dunno... those dolls help me get the proportions correct sometimes but I think it comes at the cost of a lot of stylistic choices I might have made otherwise.

In other news, we got the keys to the new house finally, and all the furniture is being delivered tomorrow. With any luck, I'll have a new workstation set up in time to get a comic posted on the 5th, but if unpacking takes a lot more time ...

Weekly Update - 60

Moving sucks.  It seems like no matter what we do to prepare, it always sucks.  None of the dates line up properly, there's always a bizarre period of limbo where your entire life is upended, and anything that can go wrong does go wrong.

The hope was that I would be able to maybe finish another comic page this week or next, but it just doesn't seem very likely to happen.  My computer is in a box.  Did I plan for it to be in a box?  No.  My plan was to drive it to the new house and have it be the first thin...

Happy Wednesday! Arrived at the new city, but I'm staying with some friends because it'll still be a week before we finish all the things and settle into the new house.

The Spots that Matter

I have a lot to do today so I made this quick and dirty, but I thought it might be fun to share, kinda, a map of just the spots I care about when I'm drawing the twins.

I certainly don't painstakingly map out their entire bodies and keep every single spot consistent, but there's a fair number of them I pay special attention to just to make sure that their appearance doesn't drastically shift from page to page or from panel to panel. The head/neck area is especially important, since that's what is in frame the most.
